Headaches Queenstown

Headaches are one of the most common complaints in the Chiropractic office. Chiropractic analysis and correction of dysfunction in the neck can be incredibly effective in resolving certain headache presentations.

There are a number of different types of headaches from benign nagging aches to those that may indicate a more serious underlying condition that may require further investigation. Chiropractors are well trained in the diagnosis of all types of headaches and are an excellent choice of practitioner to consult for any headaches you may be experiencing.

The particular type of headache that Chiropractors successfully treat is called a cervicogenic headache, meaning ‘caused by the neck.’ Cervicogenic headaches develop at the base of the skull and refer forwards to behind the eye or eyes. They will generally be made worse by particular head movements, particularly extension, and respond poorly to painkiller type medication. In the Chiropractic office we find particular jobs contribute to these types of headaches especially those that involve a lot of overhead activity or immobility of the head and neck for long periods of time.

The most unfortunate thing about cervicogenic headaches is how easily they become ‘normal’ for sufferers who eventually get used to the daily pain. Anyone suffering from regular headaches should consult with a Chiropractor for effective treatment or referral to a more appropriate practitioner if indicated.

At Wakatipu Chiropractic we integrate Chiropractic with professional Massage Therapy to ensure people suffering from headaches receive the fastest and most effective treatment and relief. We also have a network of other referral sources from physiotherapists to neurosurgeons that we utilise when indicated.
